We are a friendly group which began in 1971, with weekly classes in Newark and Bingham. Usually there are sufficient dancers for 4 sets at the Tuesday evening classes in Newark and 2 sets at Monday afternoon classes in Bingham. Each September when we begin to dance after a break in the summer, we run classes for beginners who wish to learn the basic steps and formations; more experienced dancers are there and able to help beginners.
Newark evenings are in two parts, with teaching for beginners and simple dances in the first half, then a break for tea/coffee and then social dancing for the remainder of the evening, when the beginners are welcome to watch and then as the year progresses they will find that they can take part in an increasing number of the dances. Classes are on Tuesday evenings at the London Road Congregational Church Hall in Hatton Gardens (http://newarkcongregational.com/) just off London Road in Newark NG24 1TH. We begin at 7.30 pm and normally finish by 10pm. The cost is very reasonable - £20 for each term (September till Christmas and January till Easter) and includes tea or coffee; occasional dancers are charged £3 for the evening.
The Bingham class meets in the Old Church House, East Street, Bingham NG13 8DS on Monday afternoons 2.00pm till 3.45pm with a weekly cost of £2.00.
A summer garden dance
New dancers are always welcome. Perhaps ....
• they are complete beginners
• they have experienced a ceilidh at a wedding or social function and want to find out more
• they have danced previously, possibly at school
• they have moved to the area recently
Please bring soft comfortable shoes, which will be fine while you are learning. You will find out more about dancing shoes, which you may wish to buy at a later date.
And remember ...you do not need a partner!
